Car & Driver of the Month: Kirk Sharp

Driver Name:

Kirk Sharp

Occupation:

President, Radiant Systems, Inc.

Where do you live?

Valentine, Nebraska

Years attending SORC?

5

Navigator Name:

Kort Grooms

How did you learn of the SORC?

Was at Halsey for a Nebraska Bow-Hunter Assoc. event and looked like everyone was having way too much fun to be legal.

What is your main car for this event?

Corvette 2019 ZR1

Why did you choose this car?

Has air-conditioned seats and a great Hi-Fi system...

Is this the only car you've ran here? If not, then what other car or cars have you used?

Z06 2015 Corvette

What inspired you to start open road racing?

Bought a new Corvette, took a road trip with it and needed an excuse to buy another one.

What other types of racing do you do, if any?

This is my sole event for the year.

What does your family think about your racing?

They won't tell me the truth.

Does any of your family participate as well? And if so, what do they do?

My great grandfather raced Indian Motors cycles on dirt tracks back in the 1920s. Other than that I am the only one in my entire family dead or alive.

Think about another person in the same situation as you were in when you started. Given what you know now, what advice would you give them?

You will never have the fastest car, the most money, be the best driver...but you can always have the most FUN.

If you were able to start this all over again from scratch, what three things would you do differently?

Should have participated way sooner in the SORC.

How important is it for you have a navigator?

Extremely...makes things far safer and more interesting.

What's the scariest moment you encountered on the course?

Some numb nut driving 10 mph down the road as I crested a hill on the Loup to Loup.

For people who have never driven triple-digit speed, what's the most important thing to know?

Risky in any situation other than on a completely controlled race track.

When you finally hang up your helmet, do you see any member of your family continuing on in your racing footsteps?

You never know...could happen.

What is your number one favorite thing you do while in Arnold?

Treat the area residents with the utmost respect number one. Also meet as many great people as I can.
